Installation
This installation addresses the Year 2038 problem (Y2K38), a structural limitation embedded in the way many computer systems measure time. Unix time represents dates as the number of seconds elapsed since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 (UTC). In systems that rely on 32-bit signed integers, this count reaches its maximum value—2,147,483,647—on January 19, 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC.
At this moment, time overflows. Timestamps cease to function correctly, dates lose their reliability, and systems built upon them enter a state of failure or uncertainty.
The work consists of a 32-digit seven-segment display showing the current Unix timestamp in binary form, and a motor connected to the wall-mounting hook of the installation. When the 32-bit limit is reached, the motor is triggered and the installation detaches from the wall. The physical collapse of the work marks the breakdown of a temporal standard that has silently structured digital life for decades.
